We use Dynmap on our server which provides us with both a realtime web based 2D and 3D view of our minecraft worlds in much the same way as Google Maps does.

Just some of the Dynmap features

  • Highly configurable maps per world.
  • Maps are kept in sync with your world in realtime.
  • Updates are shown while you leave your browser open.
  • Players with their faces are visible on the map.
  • Chat messages are visible (as balloons or in a chatbox) on the map.
  • Map viewers can chat to players in-game.
  • Current Minecraft time is visible on the map.
  • Current Minecraft weather is visible on the map.
  • About

Hi I'm Ethan, me and my dad built a Minecraft server to allow me to connect with my friends over Covid lockdown.

Our solution consists of two virtual guests both runing Ubuntu Server one on vSphere and one on Hyper-V.

On Server 1 (Minecraft) we use CubeCoders AMP software to install and manage our gaming servers. On Server 2 (Web) we use Apache HTTP Server and have configured the server to serve this website and to act as a reverse proxy for secure access to the Dynmap website.

    Server 1

The first server to be built was the Minecraft server and is a guest in Hyper-V.
    Operating System: Ubuntu Server 22.04
    CPU: 4 cores (Intel® Xeon® E-2224)
    RAM: 16GB

    Server 2

The second server to be built was the Web server and reverse proxy and is a guest in vSphere ESXi.
    Operating System: Ubuntu Server 22.04
    CPU: 4 cores (Intel® Xeon® E3-1220L V2)
    RAM: 2GB
